Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: May 2026
Indian Home Schools—supported by Smaart Foundation—serves caregivers, learners with diverse needs, and affiliate educators across regions. Inclusion is inseparable from our pro‑society mission: equitable access reinforces ethical citizenship formation.
Conformance status
Our public brochure and intake pages undergo periodic manual review together with automated checks hosted in CI (for example semantic structure and metadata gates). Portions of downloadable HTML toolkits exported to PDF by end users inherit accessibility from browsers’ print pipelines; we optimise source HTML layouts to improve their output.
WCAG foundations we apply deliberately
| Principle | What it means families should experience | Operational examples on this property |
|---|---|---|
| Perceivable | Content adaptable to sensory differences where technically feasible. | Sufficient colour contrast foundations, textual alternatives when media is substantive, descriptive link text avoiding vague “click here.” |
| Operable | No keyboard trap; tolerant motion cues. | Sticky navigation operable via standard focus traversal; prefers-reduced-motion respected for decorative animation. |
| Understandable | Clear language layered with expandable legal/policy depth. | Sentence clarity in outreach forms; glossary-style notices on legal pages stating “guidance—not legal advice.” |
| Robust | Markup consumable across assistive technology generations. | Semantic h1–h6 sections, labelled form controls on intake surfaces, avoidance of gratuitous DIV-only clickable regions. |
Features families can rely on today
- Keyboard: Standard tab order reaches navigation, disclosures, sliders (where present), buttons, and form fields.
- Responsive layout: Content reflows at common breakpoints (
≤900px) for magnification without horizontal strain on primary sections. - Consent surfaces: Cookie banner attaches meaningful labels (
role="dialog", titled heading). Users may choose Essential-only posture without hunting for tiny targets. - Motion sensitivity: Decorative gradient motion honours
(prefers-reduced-motion); critical reading paths remain unaffected if motion is suppressed.
Known limitations (transparent)
- Third-party geolocation lookups (only after analytics consent) may show vendor-specific banners outside our markup.
- PDFs rendered by browsers from our printable pages vary by OS print driver—we supply structured HTML minimise loss.
- Legacy inline layout fragments on some historic onboarding stubs may omit identical nav redundancy; we unify progressively.
Assessment approach
Periodic checks incorporate keyboard sweeps, spot checks with VoiceOver/macOS sampling, automated structural audits in release scripts (canonicals, headings, metadata) where applicable, plus human editorial review before policy changes widen.

Feedback remediation loop
| Stage | Objective | Illustrative timing |
|---|---|---|
| Acknowledgement | Confirm receipt and urgency level | Typically 2 business weekdays |
| Analysis | Determine root cause vs. contextual limitation | Often within 10 business weekdays |
| Fix / guidance | Implement code/content change OR supply workaround | Depends on complexity; prioritized if blocking forms |
Continual improvement roadmap
Upcoming authoring targets include expanding visible skip links across every template archetype where missing, deepening focus-outline visibility on tertiary cards, auditing animation timing uniformity, and adding expanded language metadata where multilingual rollouts crystallise.
Governance
Accessibility aligns with safeguarding and privacy obligations (see Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Child Safety Policy). Serious harms escalate under child protection protocols—not under routine accessibility SLA.
