Cookie Policy
Last reviewed: May 2026
This policy explains—in plain language—how Indian Home Schools (indianhomeschools.com), an initiative operated with Smaart Foundation, uses cookies, similar technologies, and your browser’s storage capabilities. Our posture is diplomatic and pro‑society: minimal data, clear choices, no surprise tracking.
Read this alongside our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you browse. “Similar technologies” include localStorage, sessionStorage, and secure server headers that protect sessions. Together they keep the internet usable—while requiring transparent governance.
Consent banner (first visit)
When you first open our public pages, you may see a fixed notice at the bottom of the screen. It offers:
- Essential only — disables optional analytics described in this document.
- Accept all — enables optional aggregate analytics where configured (see Analytics section).
Your choice is stored under the key ihs_cookie_consent_v1 in your browser’s localStorage. We do not use that flag to personalize advertising profiles.
Categories of processing
| Category | Purpose | Typical mechanism | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Security headers (applied at our hosting/CDN edge), HTTPS delivery, and safe operation of interactive forms. | Server / edge configuration; ephemeral session behaviours where applicable | No — baseline operation |
| Preference / UX | Remembering lightweight UI state that does not materially profile you beyond the browsing session unless you deliberately store it locally as part of unrelated tools. | Mostly intrinsic browser behaviour during page view | Often not used as third-party trackers |
| Optional analytics — first party | Aggregate insight into traffic distribution (pages visited, referrer, coarse device type). May request approximate city/country metadata for planning community programs. | HTTPS POST requests to our application backend configured in assets/js/config.js; optional IP API lookup (ipapi.co) only after “Accept all” | Yes |
| Optional analytics — GA4 | If a Google Analytics Measurement ID is listed in site configuration, Google Analytics may aggregate page views. | Google Tag Manager snippet via gtag.js | Yes |
| Affiliate dashboards | Authorized sign-in areas may keep short-lived identifiers in your browser so sessions stay secure. | sessionStorage for short-lived sign-in data | No — separate sign-in pages only |
What we do not use on this public site
- No third-party behavioural advertising auctions on this informational site footprint.
- No sale of browsing histories tied to minors.
- No fingerprinting toolkit beyond what browsers already expose—and then only sparingly inside optional analytics pathways after consent.
Retention
Browser-side consent persists until you erase site data or use the renewal control above. Server-side analytic rows (for example aggregated page visits retained to improve site structure) remain governed by schedules described in our Privacy Policy and organisational minimisation norms.
Legal basis (conceptual framing)
- India (DPDPA and related discourse): We minimise personal data processed through the public brochure site. Where identifiable fields flow through outreach forms or operational CRM channels, lawful bases—including consent where appropriate—apply as detailed in our privacy statement.
- European visitors (GDPR context): Non-essential cookies and analytics identifiers generally rely upon consent via the banner. Essential operations pursue legitimate organisational security interests.
- California / CPRA-informed practices: We do not “sell/share” behavioural segments from this brochure site footprint; analytic signals are stewardship metrics for continual improvement.
Managing preferences in your browser
Every modern browser permits you to audit or delete cookies and site storage. Guidance is maintained by Chromium, Safari, Firefox, and Edge publishers—consult their help portals for screenshots current to your version.
Children
Our public site is caregiver-led. Analytics must never substitute for parental/medical safeguarding. Adults should supervise minors interacting with outreach forms.
